Profhilo for Beginners: What You Need to Know Before Your First Treatment

Understanding Profhilo: A Brief Introduction

Profhilo treatment is a fantastic, innovative way to rejuvenate your skin to achieve a youthful, fresh appearance.

Using the wonderful science of hyaluronic acid, Profhilo injections can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles while improving overall skin hydration and texture.

What is a Profhilo treatment?

Profhilo treatment is a cosmetic non-surgical treatment that involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the skin to help improve the overall appearance. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body; this plays a very important role in maintaining elasticity and hydration in the skin. Profhilo uses a super high concentration of hyaluronic acid to stimulate collagen production and hydrate the skin. The results are fabulous and include smoother, more youthful-looking skin without using dermal fillers or other invasive procedures.

The Science Behind Profhilo: How It Works on Your Skin

The science behind Profhilo treatment lies in the very unique properties of hyaluronic acid.

A naturally occurring substance, hyaluronic acid, is found in the body’s connective tissues, including the skin. It generally supports the skin’s hydration and plumpness, giving it a youthful, smooth, radiant appearance.

Our bodies produce less hyaluronic acid as we age, which can lead to the development of fine lines, wrinkles and loose/sagging skin.

By placing this amazing hyaluronic acid-based solution into the skin, Profhilo treatment can help to replenish the body’s natural supplies of hyaluronic acid, leading to a more hydrated, firmer appearance of the skin.

The hyaluronic acid used in Profhilo is specially formulated to have a high molecular weight; this means it can penetrate even deeper into the skin’s layers than regular forms of hyaluronic acid. T

Hyaluronic acid also has wonderful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which can help to reduce swelling, redness, and other signs of skin damage.

Is Profhilo Right for You?: Assessing Your Skincare Needs

Before your treatment, you should be asked to attend a consultation, where your specialist will discuss your medical history, current medication, as well as your concerns and long-term goals. Our Norwich Skin clinic will advise whether this treatment is the best.

Profhilo is recommended for patients with fine lines, dehydrated skin or an overall loss of radiance. It can be administered for preventative and corrective measures, avoiding early signs of skin ageing.

This will depend on the severity of the skin condition, a patient’s lifestyle and age. It is recommended that a patient should have 2 Profhilo treatments with a 4-week interval between treatments. Maintenance sessions are recommended every 4 – 6 months.

Choosing a Qualified Practitioner for your Profhilo Treatment

There aren’t as many regulations or restrictions as you might think. Did you know that practitioners who administer non-surgical cosmetic treatments are not legally required to have any previous qualifications before completing training for a specific injectable? The materials and equipment used by good practitioners undergo strict product testing. Unfortunately, the people using them do not. A qualified medical professional must carry out only procedures requiring surgery (i.e., surgical incision); ”minimally invasive” cosmetic treatments can be administered by anyone.

Red flags to look out for

  1. Under-pricing. Low pricing can mean a lower quality product, which may not act the same, last as long or even have adverse effects.
  2. Thanks to new legislation, practitioners should not be treating anyone under 18; this is now a legal requirement.
  3. Practitioners use well-known brands such as Profhilo.
  4. The practitioner’s qualifications and experience.

What are the benefits of choosing a medical professional?

  1. Although non-surgical cosmetic treatments are not heavily regulated, healthcare professionals such as our Nurses and Doctors are accountable to their statutory body. Whilst non-medical practitioners may hold themselves personally accountable, there is no statutory body to answer to. This means there are no appraisals, no consequences or avenues of recourse and little guidance.
  2. Our Nurse and Doctor are medical professionals who are experienced and trained in the anatomy and physiology of the human body and in treating complications and emergency care. A person can learn to inject and start putting what they have learned into practice without having any medical background or understanding of anatomy. Knowing your specialist is trained and experienced in these things is important.
  3. They have a legal duty of care and must put their patient’s welfare above financial gain; this may make them more likely to say ”no” to patients if the treatment isn’t right for them.

What advice would you give to those looking into injectable treatments?

  1. In choosing a specialist for any procedure, looking at that practitioner’s work and experience and doing your research is always important.
  2. Ensure you choose a practitioner with experience and qualifications.
  3. Try to find a reputable clinic.
  4. Have a look at their before and after pictures, as well as patient testimonials.

Preparation Tips: Getting Ready for Your First Profhilo Treatment

Before your treatment

At our Norwich Skin Clinic, we want to ensure you’re confident in your treatment and clinic specialist to achieve the best-desired results. Skin Specialist & Aesthetics Nurse Rebecca begins the appointment with a personal consultation. She will listen to your concerns and learn about your lifestyle, habits, and, more importantly, what you want to achieve.

We then advise on the most suitable treatment combination to ensure you understand and are happy with what to expect during and after the personalised treatment, along with costing.

In our experience, clients love to see results, so we take a range of images for our records to allow us together to track your progress.

The best results are seen in those with a quality active skincare regime and a healthy lifestyle. The healthier you are, the quicker the healing and results will be seen.

During your treatment

During the treatment, you will lie comfortably on the treatment couch. Your skin will be cleansed with a range of mild medical-grade skincare products. This will ensure that the skin is prepped, clean and bacteria-free. Our Nurse will always ensure you feel relaxed and ready before your treatment. We always endeavour to create a calm and relaxing environment within our clinic using calming music and a mindful approach based on the needs of each individual client. Once the skin is prepped, the treatment will begin.

The treatment takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on the specific areas.

Each Profhilo session consists of ten injection points just below the skin’s surface. Once injected, The product gradually spreads out within the dermal layer over approximately 4cm from the injection point.

Seeing and feeling little lumps at the injection point after your treatment is not unusual. This is nothing to be alarmed about and will gradually subside within 24 hours, although some clients may experience this for up to 5 to 7 days.

Due to the high concentration of hyaluronic acid Profhilo is not suitable as an under-eye treatment, and this is where a bespoke under-eye skin-boosting treatment would be used instead. Our Nurse will guide you as to which skin-boosting treatment best suits your needs.

Post-Treatment Care: Maximising the Results and Recovery

EXPECT SOME REDNESS, SMALL PIN PRICK MARKS, AND MINOR BRUISING

Most people who have Profhilo return to their daily activities immediately post-treatment. Every individual is different, and some of the notable side effects you should be prepared for include redness at the injection site, small pinprick marks where the injections took place and some minor bruising around the treated area.

These side effects are common for all injectable treatments and will often reduce entirely after a few days.

AVOID MAKEUP FOR 24 HOURS

We advise keeping your face clean for at least 24 hours after treatment. This includes makeup and any other products you may use as part of a skincare routine. Applying these products to your face immediately after treatment can increase the risk of infection or clog the injection site.

After 24 hours, or when your side effects have reduced, feel free to wear makeup and apply any skincare that you would have previously.

AVOID INTENSE EXERCISE FOR AT LEAST 48 HOURS

Exercising is essential for some people, but if that is the case, please refrain from strenuous activity for at least 48 hours following treatment. Exercise in the form of walking is fine; however, please avoid any activities that may force you to break a sweat. As the Profhilo solution will be injected into your face, bruising is often caused by breaking the blood vessels, and exercise can extend the recovery period.

Bruising will heal and recover quickly; however, strenuous exercise will increase your heart rate. Doing this will make the vessels more visible, resulting in delayed bruising following your treatment. Therefore, we recommend keeping your blood pressure as low as possible to let your facial rejuvenation work magic.

AVOID ALCOHOL FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE AND AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

Hold off on any celebratory champers or any intake of alcohol, for that matter, for the initial 24 hours prior to and following your Profhilo treatment. Alcohol is known to thin the blood, which can lead to prolonged side effects. Drinking alcohol before or after your treatment within 24 hours will significantly prolong the healing process and prevent you from enjoying the results of your treatment as soon as possible.

AVOID EXTREMES OF HEAT OR COLD FOR AT LEAST 48 HOURS POST-TREATMENT

We strongly recommend avoiding extremely hot or cold environments for at least 48 hours after treatment. This includes being out in the sun during summer, freezing temperatures during winter, tanning beds, saunas or hot tube journeys.

Now, we don’t mean to avoid the sun and sit in the dark for two days like a vampire, but try to limit your exposure to overly hot or cold environments where possible.

Possible Side Effects: What to Watch Out For

Normal side effects may include small bruising, swelling, redness and soreness. Most of these will subside after 48-72 hours. Contact us if you are concerned or still experiencing problems after ten days.

Frequently Asked Questions about Profhilo treatments

If your skin has lost hydration and lustre, Profhilo is a special treatment worth considering. The injectable Profhilo, consisting of hyaluronic acid, can rejuvenate your skin, giving you that luminous glow and fresh look you are missing.

Many clients ask, “Is Profhilo worth it?””

The simple answer is ABSOLUTELY, yes, it is.

It is super fast-acting, minimally invasive, effective, and does not carry the risks of many other injectable procedures. It provides you with a plumper, healthy and fresher appearance and a radiant glow that will turn back a year.

Long-Term Profhilo Journey: Maintaining Your Youthful Skin

After one treatment, patients often notice a visible improvement in their skin’s texture and tone. However, you can expect to see the full results 4-6 weeks after treatment. This is because Profhilo is designed to stimulate your body’s natural production of elastin and collagen, which naturally takes time. Some clients report noticing an immediate improvement in the hydration and luminosity of their skin. However, for the majority, the benefits are most recognised after the second treatment four weeks later, when the real magic starts to happen.

Over the following days and weeks, the skin booster stimulates collagen and elastin production, creating a skin-tightening effect.

The maximum effect of these Skin and eye boosters is usually seen after the second treatment, with results lasting up to 6 months, although this will vary from client to client.

Regular maintenance treatments will be advised every four months to achieve and maintain the best results.

To further enhance collagen production and improve skin quality, combining a course of skin boosters alongside regular microneedling facials in between treatments is recommended.
