How do Focus Dual HIFU treatments work?

HIFU treats the SMAS layer – The dense mesh sheet of collagen and elastin, fat cells and muscle fibres extending from the neck to the forehead.

SMAS is found deep in the skin layer, the layer a surgeon will physically lift in a facelift. It is so deep that it is challenging to target with non-surgical technology – until now! 

Our Focus Dual device creates deep focus points of coagulative necrosis in the SMAS layer through 65-degree heat zones. The SMAS layer is immediately contracted without damage to the skin surface or surrounding tissues, which, in turn, creates immediate lifting and tightening. 

As the skin’s wound healing response is triggered, the skin naturally lifts and tightens over time, continually improving up to 12 weeks post-treatment. HIFU can be adjusted to target the upper and lower dermis and the SMAS layer with 4.5mm, 3mm, and 1.5mm cartridge depths to reduce lines and wrinkles, creepiness, and laxity. You can expect positive changes that can lift and tighten the jawline, give a more defined and lifted appearance to the cheeks and mid-face, improve the appearance of the under-eye area, and create a lifting effect in the brows.

Contra-indications for Focus Dual HIFU treatments

This is a very safe treatment; however, please let us know if any of the following apply:

  • Any active infection near the site or are feeling unwell in any way
  • Not suitable if there is an excess amount of loose skin
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Bleeding disorders or autoimmune disease
  • Heart conditions
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Are taking medicines that affect bleeding, such as aspirin or warfarin

Common side effects of Focus Dual HIFU treatments

The HIFU facial has minimal side effects; some may experience pain and slight discomfort during and right after the procedure.

  • The skin may appear red and blotchy for 24 to 48 hours
  • The treatment area may feel numb, with some swelling and bruising and dry for around 3 to 5 days
  • A light rash may appear with some dryness

After the treatment, we will advise you on the most suitable products to moisturise and protect your skin.

Staying out of direct sunlight and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 daily is essential.
